Waikato Ulysses Child Cancer Foundation charity ride theme for 2018 is “Guardians and Angels”

The Guardians and Angels Charity Ride has requested for riders and passengers to dress up as kids characters/heroes or superheroes. Come and celebrate these brave little humans and the Child Cancer Foundation’s 40th anniversary.

Ulysses Waikato has been supporting Child Cancer Foundation for over 30 years through an annual event.

This started initially as a “Toy Run” to provide gifts for children with cancer. It was soon realised that, although toys are great, the support Child Cancer Foundation can offer as a result of funds raised from the event could have a long-lasting positive impact for Kiwi kids with cancer and their families.

Child Cancer Foundation is celebrating 40 years of assisting kiwi families in 2018.

The event has seen an exciting review and relaunch to include the entire community and work towards two main goals: provide a fun-filled day that children with cancer and their families can feel part of, and raise vital funds to help these families long term.

This year’s event will include event ambassadors like Nixon. Nixon, his mum and dad and two older brothers (Nathanael and Hunter), will one of the families attending the event which is particularly exciting as one of Nixon’s hobbies is riding round on his trusty dirt bike.

They are expecting members of the cosplay community to help them celebrate the kids and their families; and remember the kids who joined them on the run previously but sadly gained their angel’s wings.

Kids with cancer, their siblings and families get to ride on the back of the bikes (or classic cars if not well enough to be on bikes), or in a dedicated bus if unable to do the run without close assistance.

They typically have 600-1300 bikes – with riders and pillions.

They raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation through actively seeking donations and by selling commemorative badges (this year including a backing card with information and celebrating the Child Cancer Foundation’s 40th anniversary).

They would love to invite you to join them for such a great cause at the gala event at the start of the ride.

The run will travel from 11:45am: Gorst Ave, Te Awamutu – follow SH3 to Airport Road – travel along the Waikato Expressway to Cambridge Road, Hamilton – turn onto Morrinsville Road (SH3) – Silverdale Road – and into the University of Waikato (Gate 10) at about 12.15pm.

Let’s make some noise and cheer the riders. pillions. and most importantly – the kids and their families!!!

You can also join them at the gala event at the end of the ride – located at the University of Waikato (Gate 10 car park) from 11:30am to 3pm.
